Approximately 253 million people live in extreme conditions of injustice. One and a half billion people have justice problems they cannot solve, and 4.5 billion people are excluded from the protections the law provides. In an attempt to address this justice gap, the international rule of law movement has been active since after World War II, specifically in developing and conflict-affected countries. Yet, this movement has been critiqued for its overall lack of success. One of the most frequent criticisms is that professionals in this field have a thin base of knowledge. This criticism is merited given the training gap that currently exists. Pre-deployment training and professional development opportunities are relatively scarce. The default position is that practitioners and policymakers already know what they need to know joining the field or that they will learn on the job.
The TransformLaw Advanced Practice Training Course© addresses the existing training gap and provides an opportunity for rule of law, justice and security professionals to develop or refine their expertise. The course provides foundational and advanced legal-, justice- and rule of law-based knowledge and skills required of a justice professional. In addition, it integrates cutting-edge research, practical tools, and case studies drawn from a wide array of disciplines relevant to justice professionals’ day-to-day practice.
